FAQ
01
WHAT DOES IT COST?
$40 Registration
$25 Early Bird (register by August 4 and use code 15off at checkout)
02
WHY IS IT SO AFFORDABLE?
Most film competitions charge $200+ just to submit a completed film.
Film Lab 714 is different.
Our mission is to build a thriving filmmaking community in Orange County, so this event has been heavily subsidized to make it an affordable introduction to Film Lab 714.
03
DO I NEED A TEAM?
No.
We'll form teams during the first day of the workshops, making it easy to meet new collaborators.
Already have friends or creative partners you'd like to work with? That's welcome too.
Remember: the three main prizes are awarded to individuals, not entire teams. Even if your team's film doesn't win, your individual contribution could still earn you the grand prize camera.
04
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Bring whatever filmmaking equipment you have access to, if any.
There's no need to bring gear to the first day of workshops, but it helps if you let us know what equipment you'll have available when you register.
If you don't own professional gear, don't worry. You can still participate.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE EVENT?
Over two days, you'll attend hands-on workshops covering story, directing, cinematography, editing, producing, VFX, and AI filmmaking tools.
After the workshops, teams will receive the 48-Hour Film Challenge and have two days to write, shoot, edit, and submit an original short film.
05
CAN I COME IF I'M A BEGINNER?
Absolutely.
The workshops are designed for filmmakers with a wide range of experience. Whether you've never made a film before or already have projects under your belt, you'll gain practical experience and work alongside other passionate creatives. The experience is optimised for younger filmmakers trying to start their careers, ages 18-35.
